We received an emergency reactive maintenance call from a Marstons site where a major problem was occurring in their gentlemen’s toilets. Five urinals were detaching from the wall, with signs of tampered pipework. Water was leaking during flushing, and the facilities were unusable.
Initial Visit
On our first visit, we made the area safe but quickly found that the situation was more serious than we had first thought. The urinals had been ripped from the wall, and the surrounding tiles were damaged. One set of two urinals was hanging off and held on by damaged tiles and compromised pipework. The most concerning was the damage to the plasterboard behind both sets, which needed to be fully replaced.
During this visit, we managed to get three urinals back up and running, but the other two couldn’t be used safely without full repairs, including pipework, plasterboard, and tiles.
The Solution
Given the extent of the damage and the client’s need for fully operational facilities, we proposed a full restoration project:
- Remove all urinals and associated pipework
- Remove all damaged tiles
- Replace compromised plasterboard
- Retile the urinal section, including grouting and cleaning
- Reinstall urinals with new brackets
- Replace all damaged pipework across all five units
The Fix
We got approval for the additional work and completed the full restoration within three days. The facilities are now fully operational, secure and looking great.
This project demonstrates our ability to rapidly respond to emergencies, provide thorough assessments, and deliver comprehensive solutions within tight timeframes.
