Insight into a Fixed Wire Electrical Test: What Are We Looking For?

Arrow Services uses these assessments to affirm and maintain the safety of your electrics. Once an inspection is successfully completed, we'll provide you with an EICR, or Electrical Condition Report.

Our fixed wire electrical test will identify and look for:

  • Investigate if any electronic devices or their associated circuits are overloaded
  • Analyse potential risks that may surface due to inadequate earthing or bonding
  • We'll see to the servicing of switches, sockets, or light fittings, and Arrow Services could find particular items, like older pin sockets or sockets attached to skirting boards, that require replacing
  • Validate if any fire risks or potential for electrical shock are lurking. Likewise, keep a keen eye out for any spotted damage
  • Bring to light any electrical tasks that aren't functioning properly
  • Explore each switch and control apparatus, verifying its worthiness. Arrow Services will delve into aspects such as wooden-backed fuse boxes and handle the necessary replacements
  • When evaluating the systems, we pay close attention to your wiring's type and condition. Older cables, especially those bearing a shell of lead, fabric, or rubber, might prompt a switch to our new and resilient PVC insulated cables
  • Arrow services will assure that you have adequate notices present.

How often should fixed wire electrical tests be conducted?

By law, commercial and public-entrance properties need to engage in routine checks and confirm an EICR for their electrical provisions. The duration between inspections is determined by how the building is used and its purpose.

It is recommended for a commercial property that a fixed wire inspection is carried out at least:

  • Minimally, an inspection is recommended every five years. We offer the option for a full 100% inspection every five years, or you may prefer our rolling inspection program that consists of a 20% inspection every year, allowing for consistency in checking your systems for any electrical shortcomings.

There are other times when a fixed wire electrical test should be carried out:

  • If you own a property and are preparing the property to be let
  • If you are due to sell a property or purchasing a previously occupied property

What is the EICR?

Serving as a reliable check of your electrical systems, an EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report) identifies any electrical safety concerns, defects, or discrepancies from the existing revisions of the BS7671 electrical regulations.

An EICR primarily serves to report on the safety status of existing installations. Our keen reports label the setup as either 'satisfactory', requiring no urgent repairs, or 'unsatisfactory', where timely remedial interventions are needed for guaranteed safety.
